Galle

Galle Aquatic Scene Vase,

Quatrefoil squat form vase attributed to Victor Hugo with a verse “The star of the morning and the star of the evening” in French. This vessel features an underwater scene of a starfish as well as vegetation. Gallé referred to this sort of glass as “Verreries Parlantes” (talking glass). The color choices are unique with its red/burgundy and green hues representing murky waters, signed on the side in cameo “Victor”, “Hugo” and “E. Galle” as well as the French verse. Item #4635
